Gwyneth Benoy

Born In: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 3rd, 2015

BENOY, Gwyneth Margaret - The vivacious Gwyneth Benoy passed into glory on September 3, 2015, following her mother Margaret (Davison) by a few short years and her father Art (Brown) by sixty five years, to whom as a five year old she thought she prayed, “Our Father who Art in heaven”.

Gwynn was married to her loving husband Chris Benoy, for forty five years. She was the mother of Kenneth and Jennifer (Sean) and grandmother of Jack, Kira and Sadie. Long time residents of London Ontario, the Benoys retired to Marvins Islnand Chester Basin, NS, while the children and grandchildren located in BC and Alberta. She is survived by her brother, Brian Arthur Brown (Jenny) in Niagara Falls, as well as nephew Arthur Brown (Kala) in Nova Scotia, niece Indira Sinton (Judson) in Ontario, and six grand nieces and nephews who all have fond memories of jumping with Gwynn on trampolines, attending garden parties where she received awards, sailing to Pirate’s Island and other activities with this “great” aunt and uncle, Grandma and Grandpa.

In Ontario Gwynn cherished her 14 years working at the Children’s Aid Society and Chris as an industrial engineer, but skiing was both their passion and the centre of a vibrant social life. In Nova Scotia boating eclipsed skiing, while frequent trips west facilitated other travels, ranging from Mexico to Yukon. She was active in the Basin Gardeners Association, famous for her lilies, Queen of the South Shore Red Hatters and a strong supporter of the Breast Quest Society Support Group.

Breast cancer led to a variety of related challenges over the years, which Gwynn faced with dynamic faith and personal courage until at “three score years and ten” she skied down her last hill and sailed into the sunset when cancer returned yet again with a vengeance in her lymph nodes.

The funeral celebration takes place in the Windsor United Church, long associated with the Davison/Underwood side of the family, at 2:00pm on Friday September 11, followed by a reception at the church for Gwynn’s many relatives and friends. The scattering of her ashes from the boat will be a private family moment at a later date. A memorial service will be held later in the fall in Langley, BC.
