POOLE, JOHN FREDERICK
It is with sadness that the family of John Poole announces his death at the Veteran's Health Unit on Friday, September 11th, 2015 at the age of 82. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the husband of Annette Poole of Oromocto.
In addition to his wife, Annette, John leaves behind, Lizz Meloney (Bruce) of North Sydney, NS, Lynn Poole-Hughes (Kim) of Fredericton, NB, Laurie Poole (Charles) of Toronto, ON, and John Poole (Christine) of Bar Harbour, ME; grandchildren, Lynn, Katie, and Nicholas Meloney, Dylan and Louisa Hughes, Hamilton and Augustyne Poole; great-grandchildren, Mason and Lucy.
John was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary (Robinson) Poole and brother, Jerome Poole.
John was a Korean War Veteran who began his military career in 1947 at the age of 14 when he joined the 8th Canadian Hussars. From 1950 to 1978 he was enlisted in both the special and regular forces and served with two armoured regiments, the 8th Canadian Hussars and Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians). After his initial discharge in 1978 he was placed on Supplementary Ready Reserve until his release in 1997. During his military career he spent time in the Middle East, Europe, United States and Canada. Following his military release he worked for Provincial Correctional Services until 1982.
There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 11:00 am with Fr. Antonio Reyes and Fr. Ken Weir as concelebrants. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will hold a tribute at 10:45 am. A reception will be held at the Oromocto Legion Branch #93 following mass. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory can be made to the NB Lung Association or The War Amps of Canada.
