John Sawka

Passed on: September 15th, 2015

With deep sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of our beloved dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, John Sawka, at the age of 96, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015.
John is survived by his daughters, Kasu (Clarence) Seward, Eva (David) Mayich and Stephanie Sawka; grandchildren, Gloria, Matthew, Adam, Joshua, Michael, Andrew, Jordan and David. Also by 13 great-grandchildren and his brother, Harry (Liviv, Ukraine).
He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline (Paranka) and other family members in the Ukraine.
John arrived in Canada Feb. 1952. He was a devout member of the Ukrainian Holy Ghost parish and Ukrainian Men’s Club. He worked his entire career at City Hospital retiring in 1983 at which time he enjoyed a retirement celebrating family birthdays, graduations, weddings and tending his ‘beloved’ garden. His family could count on their ‘Gido’ to boisterously sing for any and all occasions. John’s radiant smile and the ‘sparkle’ in his eyes continues to shine through his loving daughters and grandchildren. The joy and love he possessed for life was contagious. John touched the lives of many people in simple and extraordinary ways. We are saddened and will greatly miss ‘Gido’ but are left inspired by his legacy. “That’s To You…..”
