Marion Cox (Oxner)

COX (Oxner), Marion Rosmond – Marion, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2015, in Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. She was born September 29, 1925 in Canning, Kings Co., to Glennis Belle (Webber) and Purdy Lawrence Oxner (of Chester Basin, Lunenburg Co.). She spent her early years in Chester Basin enjoying life by the ocean. While still a teenager she moved to Middleton, Annapolis Co., and worked for The Royal Bank. She married Leland Cox in 1946 and they enjoyed 69 years together. Early in their marriage they lived in Dartmouth and then a few years in Hamilton, Ont. They returned to Brooklyn, Annapolis Co., in 1950 to purchase the Cox family farm. They dairy farmed for many years and retired to a smaller farm nearby in 1978. Marion and Lee later spent a few years living in Middleton. Marion is survived by her children: son, Gregory (Jill), Middleton; daughters, Cheryl Ann MacDonald (Bruce), Upper Tantallon; and Wendy-Lee Hamilton (Roger), Port Williams; grandchildren, Heather MacDonald, Calgary; Bronwyn Denton (Mark), Kelowna, B.C.; George MacDonald, Calgary; Joel Cox (Krista), Ottawa; Leah Hamilton, Kingston, Ont.; Jenna Hamilton, Toronto; Keltie Hamilton, Kingston, Ont.; great-grandsons, Jonas, Simon, Noam and Eben Cox, Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leland Elroy Cox; her parents; her brother, Bruce Oxner (wife Clara Hiltz) and her sister, Lucille (husband Raymond Gardner). Marion was a long-time member of Middleton Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She taught Sunday school and served on numerous committees. She was a founding member of the Women’s Missionary Society in Brooklyn and remained an active member until it concluded 50 years later. She was also involved with the Rural Beautification Program in Annapolis County. She loved to cook and entertain and welcomed many friends and relatives over the years. The family had many family picnics in Port George. Years later, when the grandchildren arrived, Marion and Lee purchased a cottage on Zwicker Lake and spent many happy days there swimming and canoeing and entertaining family. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Grand View Manor, Berwick, for their sensitive and excellent care in the past 19 months. Special thanks to Valley Regional Hospital. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 15 at 2 p.m. in Middleton Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Grand View Manor Recreation Program, Mission Aviation Fellowship of Canada or Middleton Baptist Church.
