OLSON, Vern Lyle

September 19, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
After a courageous battle with cancer, our beloved father and friend Vern Olson passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, September 19 at the age of 80, in Calgary. Vern was a loving and patient father to his five children, Darren, Lorrie Fortin (Ernie), Julie Lavender (Warren), Kim Berrns (Terry) and Darcy Olson (Sarah). He was a devoted grandfather to Tyler, Jarryd, Thomi, Keifer, Josh, Nicholas, Jacob, Jensen, Jordan and Jackie. Vern was also a proud great-grandfather to Sayge, Jaielle, and Liam. He is survived by his brother Burnette (Arlene). He was predeceased by his beautiful daughter-in-law Shirley, and was a caring, devoted husband and was predeceased by his beautiful wife Shirley Clarice Olson.
Vern worked at Prudential Steel in Calgary for 25 years. He was a well-respected foreman and former president of the Steelworkers Local Union. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling to many places around the world and spending time with his friends and family. He was a kind, gentle and generous man who was loved by everyone who knew him.
Vern’s children are inviting friends and family to join them to share stories and memories of Vern, on Tuesday, September 22 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the “Reception Centre” at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB)
Vern will be laid to rest on Wednesday, September 23 at 10:00 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens (17th Avenue South East at Garden Road – 100th Street, Calgary, AB). Funeral Services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (14640 - 6th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
