MacVICAR, W. REID (WENDELL REID)
February 2, 1938 - September 18, 2015
W. Reid MacVicar passed away peacefully Friday, September 18, 2015 with family members by his side at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, Nova Scotia. Born February 2, 1938 in Chipman , New Brunswick. The only child of Arthur Wendell and Martha Victoria (Reid) MacVicar.
After graduating high school in his hometown, Reid attended Horton Academy and Acadia University. He worked with his father, who operated Esso Fuels in Chipman, NB; he operated a Service Station in Minto, NB, and worked in Halifax at a Funeral Home for a number of years. For several years Reid lived in Saint John, NB where he was employed by the Irving’s in sales with Atlantic School Bus Division, then moving on to Nova Scotia where he was the Sales Manager for Irving’s Scot Truck Mfg. Plant in Debert until the plant closure in 1980. He was then employed by King Seagrave Inc., and finally several years with the Province of Nova Scotia and the Compliance Division until his retirement in 1998. Reid enjoyed Politics, Municipal affairs, serving on Colchester County Council for several years, Chairman of the Colchester East Hants School Board for twelve years, President of NS School Board Association, Treasurer Canadian Trustees Association, Truro Town Council, and was Chairman of the Building Committee for the new Truro Police building. Reid also served as President Colchester North P.C. Association. After retirement Reid moved to Londonderry NS, where he and Charlotte lived for thirteen years. He was very active as President of Londonderry Community Council, served on the United Church Pastoral Charge for Acadia United Church, Londonderry and St. James United Church, Great Village. Reid was a member/volunteer with many other groups; Kinsmen Association, Central Shrine Club, Hospital Board, Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, United Commercial Travellers, Past President & Member of The Truro Club and member of the P.C. Association of CCMV. He enjoyed travelling, playing cards, 45’s, cribbage, etc. Moving back to Truro in 2011 residing at Willow Lofts until his passing.
He leaves behind his wife Charlotte (Bogle-Cooke), son Andrew (Nicole, Trinity) Dartmouth, step-daughter Marie (Cooke) Faulkner, grandchildren Sally and Tommy Faulkner, Truro, along with friends, relatives, many cousins; especially John (Nora) Barton, Chipman, NB, special cousin, Grace (Jerry) Reid Brooks, Freedom, NH, USA, many great nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Special thanks to Dr. David Blair, Dr. J. D. Henderson, Dr. Don Rowe, Dr. Cortney Smith, Lisa Weatherby RN Palliative Care Service, VON Nurses, Michelle Maillet RN many others; CCA homecare support, and all of the Hospital Palliative care, staff, nurses, and doctors who so kindly cared for Reid during his last three weeks of life while in the CEHHC Truro Hospital. To all our friends and family we appreciate your love, support, faithful visits and kindness.
No visitation or funeral by Reid’s request. A graveside service at a later date in Chipman, NB, at Chipman United Church Cemetery Route. 123 , Sunday, at 2 PM, October 25, 2015. Locally a reception will be held to visit family at 63 Duke St., Truro, NS from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, September 27, 2015.
Donations may be made to Palliative Care Truro Hospital, VON Services, Hospice Service or charity of choice.
