Frances Bain

Frances Marie Bain
1927-2015
Frances (nee MacPherson), lately of Dalmeny, SK, died peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Christina (Balfour) MacPherson; her husband Murdoch William Bain; her brother Neil and sister-in-law Marion; brother Keith and brother Daniel; and her sister Freda Reeve. She is survived by her daughter Heather (Kurt) Weston of Webb, SK; grandson Cameron Weston of Swift Current, SK and his children, Fran's great-granddaughters, Kaila (and her son Slayden), Kasie, Kamryn and Kimberlynne; her son Charles, aka Chuck, (Tanyss) Bain of Saskatoon, SK; son Murdo Alexander, aka Sandy, (Ann Cheek) and their children, granddaughter Sybil and grandson Mackenzie of Lyalta, AB; son Gordon (Angela Mathers) of Swift Current, SK as well as her brother-in-law Glenn Reeve of Saskatoon, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was born on September 27, 1927 and was raised on a farm near Success, SK, later moving to Swift Current near the end of the dirty thirties. After completing her early education in Swift Current, she went on to nursing training in Moose Jaw at Moose Jaw General Hospital, graduating in 1949. Frances came back to Swift Current to work and met the love of her life Murdoch William Bain. They were married in 1951. Fran, as she was known to family and friends, spent her entire 40 year career as a nurse at the hospital in Swift Current. Early on she became a Head Nurse and served as such on three different wards. As Head Nurse, she was respected by the staff in her charge, peers and colleagues. As we have recently learned, she was also admired by many for her skill, compassion and mentorship. After retirement in 1989, she undertook various volunteering roles with several organizations including Meals on Wheels and Wellness Clinics. Fran also expanded her role in the Swift Current St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, took on a larger care giving role for her mother, began to travel often, and even go bowling with friends. All around, she was able to increase her time with friends and family. Fran enjoyed family holiday time with her children, her flowers, and a good game of Scrabble, getting lost in a Catherine Cookson novel, or keeping the house scrubbed clean. As Fran’s health and eyesight deteriorated, she moved from Swift Current in 2009 to a care home in Dalmeny where she resided for the past six years. Frances will be missed by all those who knew her and especially by her family who loved her. A Celebration of Frances’ Life will be held at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon, SK) on Monday, October 5th at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to especially thank Darlene Coulic of the Coulic Care Home in Dalmeny, SK for the wonderful care and friendship that she gave Frances. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frances may be made to the CNIB, to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Swift Current or to the Lupus SK Society.
