Brown, Helen Eugenie, age 98, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax. Born on October 24, 1916, in “Mapleton”, Three Mile Plains, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Edith “Lenore” (Finley) Brown. In her younger years Helen worked at Stanfield’s in Truro where she was known to all as “Brownie”. In later years she returned home to provide care and support to her parents. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her brother, William “Bill” of Barrington Passage and many close nieces, nephews, cousins and friends of whom she was so fond. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Robert “Bobby” and sister-in-law, Dorothy; Warren and sister-in-law, Lois; Elmer “Sonny” and sister-in-law, Rose; sister-in-law, Ruby; and her beloved dog, Keyah. Helen was a special lady with a quick wit and a great sense of houmour. Her home was always open to many visitors where they would enjoy stories with cups of tea or one of her famous “Brownie Specials”. She was fiercely independent in all aspects of her life, but happiest when outside mowing on her lawn tractor, which she continued to do until the age of 97. Helen carried on the family tradition of skilled carpentry and generously donated many pieces of her work to various fundraisers. As well, she loved her vegetable garden and was always willing to share her crop with family and friends. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. In keeping with Helen’s wishes, a graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015, in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix.
