Rebecca Jean (Reba) Jenkins

Jenkins, Rebecca Jean (Reba) 97, Truro, passed away at her home in the presence of her caring family.
She is affectionately remembered by her loving daughters, “Billi” Faye, (Chuck) Langtry and Heather Jo (Robert) MacDonald, brother Bill (Clara) Retson and granddaughter Marilayna Langtry, China. “Aunt Reba” was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. They had a special place in her heart and she always delighted in their visits. Reba and her great grandniece, Keira Blackadar, had a special relationship that brought joy to Reba during her final years.
Reba was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years - Dr. Bill Jenkins, sister Doris and her husband Lawrence Hancock, brother Clifford Retson and his wife Grace and her beloved grandson, Christopher Langtry (Corena).
Reba attended the Truro Normal College and taught in various schools in her early years. Reba and Bill moved into her parents’ home in Bible Hill to care for her ailing mother, father, and father-in-law. She knew sickness and the inevitable problems that can torment the elderly. She was an anchor of stability, taking care of the domestic chores that go along with the family hobby farm; making sure the harvest could feed the numerous family, friends and visitors that always seemed to be present in our home. She was a tremendous support to Dad during his time away –overseas during WWII, his educational leaves away and working long hours at “the college” and later in Halifax.
Mom was a truly kind and gentle soul. People were important to her. Reba and Bill were a real team and shared a love of music and dance, card games with family and friends, especially bridge, their fellowship at First Baptist Church, her Bible Hill community and of course anything at the NSAC. She treasured her summers at the family cottage in Marshville and her 27 winters in Florida.
Reba’s daughters would like to acknowledge how lucky we were to have found such wonderful and compassionate care givers that allowed mom to stay in her own home, the tremendous support from the staff at Frasers Pharmacy, the VON and finally the Palliative care team that made her last week comfortable.
Visitation will take place on Monday, September 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A Celebration of Reba’s Life will be held on Tuesday, September 29th at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 759 Prince St., Truro with Rev. Paul Worden officiating. Reception to follow. Interment in Valley Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. If so desired, donations in her memory may be made to First Baptist Church, CNIB, VON Palliative Care or any charity of your choice.
