Passed in: French Road Marion Bridge
Passed on: September 23rd, 2015

Anna 'Carmella' MacDonald peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Sept. 23, 2015.
Born July 16, 1938 in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Isabel (Campbell), Rear Boisdale and Kenny MacDonald, Glencoe, Inverness.
Mom grew up in Gillis Lake and spent her late teens in Whitney Pier.
Carmella is survived by her husband, Daniel Vincent; children, Margie, Ronnie, Ann, Teresa (Rick), Johanna, Donelda and Donnie; very special daughter-in-law, Jenny (Donnie’s wife). Mom leaves behind the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Kenny, Joey, Daniel (Cody), Ryan, Logan, Liam and Linden; great-grandchildren, (Daniel’s kids) Caleb, Brayden and Trinity, (Kenny’s kids), Lyanneah, Mayleigh and Zackery. She is also survived by sisters, Rosaire, Theresa (Ronnie) and Catherine; brother, Danny; her friend Sandra Doyle, special nephew Alexander 'Sandy' MacKinnon.
She was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Joseph in infancy; brothers, Rannie, Hughie and Angus; sister, Alexina and sister-in-law, Evelyn.
Mom will be remembered for her tenacity, faith, sense of humour, and creativity. A proficient knitter and crocheter, she has left a legacy of beautiful blankets, socks, sweaters, hats, mittens, doilies and facecloths. She gardened, drew and painted. She was truly a creative person. Mom will also be remembered for her love of Gaelic, country and Newfoundland music.
Raised in a Gaelic household, she knew better than any scholar, the value of language and tradition. She told the scariest forerunners, could read your tea leaves, spent countless hours playing cards and loved the woods. As kids, teens and adults, we’d follow her for hours tramping through the fields, swamps, and woods of French Road appreciating, and picking berries, trees, and flowers that she loved to replant. She loved doing a wash, hanging the clothes on the line, ironing and having a cup of hot tea. She loved going to the circus, listening to Ashley MacIssac and Robert Bouchard, travelling and shopping with Margie and Teresa! We will miss her pans of biscuits, her rosaries, her plum bread at Christmas (raisin bread) and her love of plants.
Thank you to longtime family friend, Neil MacNeil. Thank you also to nurses Bernie and Darlene; CCAs Isabel and Clara, and staff at Harbourstone Nursing Home. A special thanks to Dr. Khodadad and the cancer clinic at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Mom we love you and we understand that this was your time to go. While we will miss you in our everyday lives, we know you are never far away. Your values, faith, and your strong rural Scottish ways will be forever with us. Love your children.
Visitation for Mrs. MacDonald will take place on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of her funeral service at 2:30 p.m., both at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Rev. Paul MacGillivray will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Margaret’s Parish Cemetery, Grand Mira.
