Robert Wesley Roland

Born In: Sydney

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: September 23rd, 2015

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our brother Robert Wesley Roland on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015.
Born in Sydney, he was the youngest child of the late Wesley and Irene(Adams) Roland.
Robert had many challenges in his life but there was never a complaint and always with a smile on his face. He was a proud client of the former Brass Tack and the new CAPE for over 30 years. Excelling in his talent of furniture refinishing Robert was proud of every piece he worked on. As part of the extra programs through CAPE, Robert had been involved with the food bank and most recently could be found every Tuesday morning at Harbax Home Hardware. Robert could always be found walking through town on his lunch hour, rain or shine he had to keep in touch with the many friends he got to know over the years.
He enjoyed the monthly birthday party and summer camps that were hosted by the former AFTEC. He was a diehard Montreal Canadien fan and loved going to the Eagles games. Robert enjoyed his extensive movie collection loving the old tv shows and a good comedy.
After the passing of our parents Robert decided he wanted to branch out on his own and got his first apartment. He loved his own place and his two cat companions Tigger and Princess were never far from his side. He gained even more independence when he became part of the Independent Assistive Living Program. He enjoyed learning to cook and go on his many outings with his worker Jean Campbell. She gave him a new sense of freedom and they were always on the go. Thanks Jean for being so good to Robert, we always knew he was in good hands.
Robert is survived by his sister Jean (Noel) Bramwell, brother Ross (Paula), nephews Daniel (Candace), Christopher (Sarah) Roland, niece Pamela (Ben) Bramwell. He was a great uncle to Alexis, Chayce, Bryson, Aiden and Shyanne. Also surviving are his aunts Anne Mae and Marie; uncle George (Helen) and numerous cousins.
Besides his parents Robert was predeceased by paternal grandparents August and Florence Roland, maternal grandparents William and Olive Adams, uncles Richard Adams, Wendell (Helen) Roland and aunt Eileen (Roland) Bonnar.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church with Rev Vernon Reid officiating.
