Morley Greer

Morley Brunswick Greer age 86 formerly of River Hebert passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Kentville, NS. Born August 8, 1929 in Joggins, NS, Morley was a son of the late Alexander “Sandy” and Viola (Melanson) Greer. He grew up in the Ragged Reef area during the depression years and at the age of 16 trained briefly with the Reserve Army, Camp Aldershot in 1945, but did not make it overseas due to the war ending the same year. Dad journeyed to Ontario in the late 40’s working with MacNamara Construction building the Don Valley Parkway express lane into Toronto. He then travelled up North in the early 1950’s where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator on the Pinetree Line, just south of where the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line was built that ran from Alaska to Greenland. After leaving the North and moving back home he married Eleanor Lowther (the love of his life) and eventually started working for Domtar Chemicals, Sifto Salt Plant in Nappan where he retired after 25 years’ service. Dad was a proud family man who cared fiercely for both his children and especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband who stayed by his wife’s side during the many years she suffered from MS, a disease that eventually took her life. He was a man of discipline and great work ethic that you could count on as always being there. He enjoyed washing and polishing his Ford cars and was a lifelong automobile enthusiast. Dad also enjoyed traveling and Curling. He was a member of the Brookside Curling Club and a 30 year member of the Joggins R.C. Legion, Branch No. 4. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his son, Jeff (Joyce), Coldbrook; granddaughters, Jana (Matthew) Wilson, Kentville and Vanessa (Alexander) Halifax; grandson, Wade (Cheryl), Cambridge; great grandsons, Liam and Jeremy. In addition to his parents, Morley was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Francis (Lowther) in 2008; and son, Kimberly in 2013.
