With profound sadness we the family announce the peaceful passing of Heather Webber (nee Penney), 48, on Sept. 30, 2015 at An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in New Waterford, Heather was the daughter of the late Melvin and Trudy (MacEachern) Penney.
Heather lived with and fought a courageous battle with cancer for over three years always maintaining a positive attitude, never complaining and asking for very little just as she had lived her entire life. Heather was an LPN she worked for many years in Nursing and Residential Homes as well as long term care. During those years she formed many long lasting bonds with her co-workers. Heather treated everyone she encountered with kindness, compassion and respect, it gave her great pleasure to care for others. Heather loved music, sports (especially watching her son and family play baseball), she truly loved her road trips with her husband Michael. Heather's greatest joy and love came from her family, after her mom's passing Heather embraced the role of mother for the entire family, she believed family should support one another and spend time together whenever possible especially on special occasions. Heather was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her husband and best friend Michael; son, Evan 'Boo Bear' (Ashley); grandchildren, Aiden and Avaiah; sister, Melissa (Dean) DeGiobbi, Victoria Mines; brothers, Buddy (Lynn), Lingan, John 'Mingy' (Caroline), Glace Bay; nieces, Katie aka 'Princess', Brooklyn and her namesake Heather, nephews Chris and Kyle Penney, Robbie and Daniel Cameron, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Heather is also survived by life long family friend Lynda Bonnar and best friends Lynn Penney, Pattie Gillis, and Darlene Durando who she fondly referred to as "the girls".
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her in-laws Theresa and Hilary Webber, maternal grandparents Arnold (Ham) and Gloria MacEachern, paternal grandparents Cecil and Clara Penney, several aunts and uncles.
Heather will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct.4, 2015 from 12-2 p.m. followed by a chapel service at 2 p.m. in McLellan Brothers Chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. All are welcome to a reception following the service at the parish hall, Convent St.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
Donations may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Centre or An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Thank you to all the medical professionals who provided care over the past three years, VON, Home Care and a special thank you to the nurses and staff of An Cala Palliative Care Unit for the exemplary care they provided to Heather and her family.
