Gordon Queen

QUEEN, GORDON DOUGLAS
July 24, 1941 - October 2, 2015
With sadness and fond memories, we announce the death of Doug Queen, on October 2, 2015. He was the first born of Charles Bertram (Bert) and Mildred Edith (Howe) Queen on July 24, 1941 at Armstrong’s Corner, New Brunswick where they lived until moving to Saint John in 1953.
Throughout his early years, his love for horses was clear – both by working with his father, on their farm, and in becoming an acclaimed horseman of his right, primarily at Exhibition Park Raceway, where he could also be seen hauling hay and feed for years. Many in the area also knew Doug through the trucking business, where he worked in service for over 50 years. In 1975, 40 years ago, he married Ruth (Titus) Queen. Together they had one daughter, Alyson, and he was extremely proud of his new granddaughter, Audrey.
Always with a quick wit and a quiet kindness, along with his trademark wink, Doug will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Alyson; son-in-law, Serge Buy and; granddaughter, Audrey. He is also survived by three sisters (Dorothy, Jean, Mary); three nieces and one nephew; and many cousins and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Donald.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, with a memorial service to be held in Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, October 8 at 2pm.
For those who wish to do so, remembrances to the Saint John Extra-Mural Program or the Lorneville Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
