Thomas Hounsell, 68 years of age, passed peacefully away, on October 6, 2015, at the Health Science Centre. Fondly called Buster Riggs by everyone who knew him in the Glovertown area, was born in Pound Cove, but spent most of his youth growing up in Glovertown. As a young boy, he delighted in his summer visits with his family in Pound Cove and Indian Bay. Shortly after he successfully completed a course in Auto Mechanics at the Gander Vocational School, he left to join the Navy, travelling all over the world. He spent 18 years in the Navy, making his home in Halifax where he lived many years with his wife Rita and her two boys Larry and Wayne. He enjoyed cooking, especially trying out new recipes. He also loved to salmon fish and hunt. His hobbies were tying salmon flies, stamp collecting, doing crosswords and gardening. He was a very religious man and enjoyed reading his bible daily. Tom was also fortunate to have two families. He was predeceased by his biological parents, Thomas and Maryanne (Easton) Hounsell of Pound Cove; his baby brother Braden, his brothers Eli, Melvin, Willmore and Llewellyn and sister-in-law Dorothy; brother-in-law Wilberforce, sister Eleanor and brother-in-law Fred and sister-in-law Verna. Survived by sister Minnie, brothers Solomon, Ellis and sister-in-law Blanche and sister-in-law Agnus. He was predeceased by adoptive mother Neatha (Stroud) Riggs and baby Clarence. He's survived by adoptive father Clarence Riggs; sisters Evelyn (Jeff) and Marguerite, brother Phil (Lyla) and aunt Mildred Stroud. He also leaves to mourn many cousins, nieces and nephews and their spouses; special friend Patsy Arnold and longtime friends in Nova Scotia and NL. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
