Richard "Rick" Lane

The death of Richard Bennett "Rick" Lane, 85, of Sackville, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Rick was born August 19, 1930, in Amherst, NS, and was a son of the late Charles and Maude (McCallum) Lane.
Rick worked at Mount Allison University for 26 years prior to retirement. He was awarded Life Membership of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. A bugler, he served in the 8th Hussars (Princess Louise), Regimental Band from 1959 to 1985 and received the C.F.D. Queens Silver Jubilee Medal. Music had been a large part of Rick's life, he played for dances in the 50s and 60s and was a member of the Sackville Citizen's Band.
He was a member of the Sackville United Church.
Rick is survived by a step-daughter, Diane (Don) Swan, Moncton; a granddaughter, Laura (Paul Tingley) Calder-Page; two great granddaughters, Sophia and Ariel; a step-granddaughter, Maddy; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Lane, Amherst, and a nephew, Kent.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (nee Carson) as well as his two brothers, Timothy and Ronald.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) from where a time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 pm with a burial to follow in the Sackville Cemetery. Rev. Catherine Smith presiding.
The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Sackville, will be conducting a Legion Memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 pm
Donations in memory of Rick may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Sackville, or the Alzeimer's Society.
