HYSON, Kathleen. Age 93, of Hantsport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, at home, surrounded by her children. Born in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian (Wilson) Johnson. She was also predeceased by husband, Ronald Victor Hyson (Holland); husband, Kempton Merrill Hyson (Hantsport); brothers, Edward and Herbert Johnson (Alberta); sisters, Harriet, Gwen, Charlotte, and Victoria (England). During the war, Kathleen worked at Rowntree Chocolates. In the mid-sixties, Kathleen received her hair-dressing diploma and opened Kay’s Beauty Salon in her house. A few years later, she went on to work for Sears Canada for approximately 15 years. Kathleen was a Brownie leader and was involved in several organizations in Hantsport. She held every position within the Eastern Star and Rebekah’s. Kathleen loved to travel, making several trips within North America, to Holland, and often to her original home in England. She was a terrific fan of Coronation Street, making several visits to the set and meeting many of the actors. She enjoyed playing bridge and rummoli, with the family Christmas rummoli tournament being an annual event. She is survived by children, Stewart, Graham, Pamela, Kempton (Jennifer); grandchildren, Barry, Christopher, Erica, Ashley, Amy; brother-in-law, Terrance. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and loved to be with them. Special thanks from the family go to Judy Bain, VON, Valerie Dill and her team, for the terrific attention. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where visitation was held Thursday, October 15, with an Order of the Eastern Star service being held at 7 p.m. followed by visiting until 9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Kathleen’s life took place 2 p.m. Friday, October 16, in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 59 Main St., Hantsport, Rev. Tom Henderson officiated. Interment followed in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, with a reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dartmouth Special Olympics, PO Box 41114, Dartmouth, NS B2Y 4P7 or charity of one’s choice.
