Richard William Duchemin of Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Oct. 18, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, Aug. 18, 1943, Richard was the son of the late Roy and Cora Duchemin.
An accomplished musician, he played the organ for 15 consecutive Rotary Shows at the Vogue Theatre in Sydney. He, along with pianist Aubrey Boone, also had a television show on CJCB.
Richard worked at the Cape Breton Post for several years before moving on to the Department of Natural Resources. He later retired from the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Richard is survived by his wife, Trudy (Delaney); daughter Coralie, Sydney; son Gordon (Shelley), Westville; grandchildren, Cheryl, Christopher, Roy and Brooke, and great-grandson, Hunter. Richard is also survived by his brother, Robert (Susan); brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Lorraine), Harold (Norma), Greg (Avril), Arthur (Kathy); sister-in-law Beverley (Rien) Veldhuis and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Tuesday at 7 p.m. Visitors will be received at 6:30 p.m.
