DYKE, Charles Richard (Dick), Yarmouth and Chester - C. Richard Dyke, 91, passed away October 8 at Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building. He was born and raised in Yarmouth, where as a youth he excelled at photography and outdoor pastimes and developed a lifelong love of adventure. Immediately upon leaving school, he joined the local military unit (14th Field Regiment, RCA) and shipped out to WWII Europe where his unit was active. His military affiliation continued after the war rising to the rank of Lt-Colonel and CO of the local reserve unit. With demobilization, he followed the family trade gaining formal training as a gemologist and successfully managed his own commercial jewelry business for many years. As a retirement project which stretched to 25 years, he took over the family jewelry store (CE Dyke Ltd) in Yarmouth from his brother Fred, who had taken it over from his father, and so on back to 1896.
He maintained residences in both Yarmouth and Chester, was an avid curler, golfer, and world traveler, and enjoyed raising an occasional glass with friends. He contributed to the success of many organizations including EMO, the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Canadian Jewellers Association, and Rotary International. His wife Eleanor (Boyd) recently predeceased him. He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth (Vancouver), Nancy (Vancouver), son Richard and daughter-in-law Nancy (Brookside) and grandchildren Tracey, Nicholas, Josh, and Sam. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 30th at 2 pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Yarmouth) with reception to follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice
