Walter John Labarowski

On Thursday, October 15, 2015, Walter John Labarowski passed away peacefully in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 79 years.
Walter was born on October 27, 1935 on the family farm near Pennant, SK, which is located a short distance northwest of Swift Current. He was raised on the farm, and attended elementary and high school in Pennant, graduating in 1953. Walter then entered the Moose Jaw Teacher’s College (1953/54), after which he taught Grades 1 through 8 in a rural school at Cantaur, SK.
After two years of teaching, Walter decided to switch career paths, and he therefore enrolled in the College of Engineering at the U of S in September, 1956. Following his 1961 graduation, Walter joined the Procter and Gamble Company of Canada at their manufacturing and research centre in Hamilton, ON. He was to spend his entire career with Procter and Gamble. In 1969, he was transferred to the P&G parent company’s headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. In September 1981, Walter and Donna made their last move when he was transferred to Grande Prairie, AB as the technical unit manager in the Procter and Gamble Cellulose Limited’s pulp mill. Walter was an avid marathon runner. Competing in several marathons, he won the gold medal in the 1992 Alberta Senior Games.
Walter is survived by his loving wife Donna, their children Douglas (Darlene) and Donald (Kim) Labarowski. Walter will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Daniel, Branden, Karah, and Taylor.
Walter was predeceased by his sisters Irene and Mary.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015, from 5:00–7:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015, at 1:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9929 105 Ave) with Pastor Greg Anderson officiating.
