We regret to announce the peaceful death of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Muriel Peach, at Seaview Manor on Oct. 31, 2015, the day of her 95th birthday.
Born in 1920 in Birch Grove, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Smith.
She was predeceased by her husband Brenton, grandchild Treena, brothers, Ken and Eugene and sisters, Ella, Mary, Gladys, Olive and Myrtle.
She is survived by her three sons, David (Donna), Kevin (Florence), Gary (Arlene) and sisters, Sadie, Rita, Lena and Shirley. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, Shannon, Kelly, Janice, Andrea, Elicia and Charles and by great-grandchildren, Emily and Abigail.
Mom was a proud graduate of Glace Bay General Hospital school of nursing and spent most of her career as a maternity nurse there, referring to the newborns as her babies. She reluctantly retired at age 65 but remained very active as an alumni member until she was in her 90s.
Muriel was a devoted member of Saint Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. She served on many church committees and groups, serving and catering countless meals at functions in the church hall and on the altar guild, preparing for services.
Mom set a fine example of how a life should be lived, setting a high standard of love for her family, dedication to her career and devotion to her church. Her sons reflected that love back to her and her grandchildren adored her. She will be truly be missed by her family and many friends.
Special thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor who provided exemplary care for Mom. She thought the world of you.
Visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay on Monday, Nov. 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at 11 a.m.
Well Mom, your shift here is over, all of your babies are safe and Dad, like always, is waiting to take you home. Rest peacefully.
