It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Garnet Christopher Ward at the Glace Bay Hospital, Glace Bay on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015.
Born in Minto, N.B., he was the son of the late Roy and Mary (Brown) Ward.
He retired from the University College of Cape Breton as the purchasing manager. He was a veteran and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, president of the Sergeants Mess Victoria Park, Sydney; he was the commanding officer of the 694 Air Cadets squad. He was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Garnet is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sylvia (Reid) Ward; children, Linda Vieira (Dave), Niagara Falls, Ontario, Scott (Ellen) Ward, Dartmouth, Richard (Ann) Ward, Sydney; his nine grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Ry and Bren Vieira, Scott Jr.,Alex and Tony Ward Katelynd and Garnet Ward,; his five precious great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Clifford (Doe) Ward, Sydney River, Ronald (Jackie) Brown, N.B.; sister, Mavis Morrison, Sydney; several nieces and nephews; as well as his faithful dog, Wally.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Patsy Ward; brothers, Ralph, Allan and Ted.
Donations in memory of Garnet may be to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private burial will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
