Shirley MacCuish of Glace Bay passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Glace Bay, daughter of the late Jim and Elsie Donovan.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Alex; daughter, Florence (Eldon), N.B.; sons, Alex (Darus), Glace Bay, James (Raylene), Ont.; grandchildren, Alexis, Jacob, Audreanna, Alix, Noah, James Jr., Dustin and great-grandchildren, Galvin, Olivia, Elizabeth and Tyler; sisters, Dolores (Sam), Helen (Jerry), Theresa (Gord); brothers, Jack (Pearl), Tim (Kaye), Wishie (Alice), Patty, Normie and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Michaela.
She was employed with St. Joseph Hospital in 1979 in the laundry department, then as a porter until present with the Glace Bay Hospital. She took great pride in her work, she loved the interaction with the patients and staff, always offering a smile, a chat or just a cup of tea. She lived her life to the fullest, she enjoyed walking, hiking the highlands, yoga and working out at the gym. She loved her family and was there for them.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 13th in St. Anne's Church at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the palliative care department, VON or charity of choice.
