It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister and friend, Cheryl Matheson, who passed away on Nov. 12, 2015, at the age of 34 years in Calgary, Alta.
She was born in Baddeck on Nov. 2, 1981.
Cheryl was passionate about her job as a nurse clinician at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alta. She was a highly valued member of the team, hard working and dedicated to her leadership role, and always willing to lend a hand. In a job that is both mentally and physically demanding, her humour and sarcastic wit were always well placed and needed. Cheryl is irreplaceable and will be deeply missed by the Foothills staff and the many friends she made along her nursing journey.
Cheryl was actively involved in sporting activities growing up, including hockey, basketball and soccer. She coached CanSkate, figure skating, mini-ball and carried her love for basketball into her life in Calgary. She was also an avid snowboarder and could be found with her nose in a book, whether spread out on the beach, or curled up on the couch.
Cheryl is survived by her mother Bernadette Matheson, of Baddeck, N.S.; her brother Charles Matheson and his fiancé Amanda McQueen of Calgary, Alta.; her aunts and uncles; Duncan and Mary Ellen Matheson, Rudy and Rosaire Jenkins, Frank and Ann Skidmore, Roddie and Debbie MacLean, Michael MacLean, and Marie Matheson; and her cousins Sylvia (Norman) Bernard, Daniel (Renee) Matheson, Melanie (Jeff) Skidmore, and Jenna (Ben) Boutillier. Cheryl is also survived by life-long friends Tamzin Gillis and Gilda Chisholm, and many others she met along the way.
Cheryl was predeceased by her father David Matheson, who passed away in November 2011.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, your love beyond words, and missed beyond measure.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th St. S.E., Calgary, Alta.) on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
