Dorothy Burt-Stagg (Drodge)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Born in Little Heart's Ease, Trinity Bay on January 10, 1927, she learned the importance of hard work and devotion to family and friends. She was a beautiful, smart, kind and generous person her whole life and these exceptional qualities translated into her making a positive difference in many lives at home, at church, and through her work. As a very young woman she began her teaching career in the island's outports where she met her first husband, Aubrey Burt. They then moved to St. John's where she had five children, but continued to work as a teacher until she became a health care administrator. When he became ill, she retired to care for him, moving to Clarke's Beach until his death. Throughout her lifetime she attended church, loved to play the piano and sing. It was while she was attending the Golden Agers Community events that she met Richard Stagg, and spent her last years with him until his death at 101, in May 15, 2015. Very ill herself, she spent her final months cared for by her devoted family and passed away peacefully surrounded by their love and care. She is predeceased by her parents Lydia and Thomas Drodge, sisters Sadie, Miriam, Vera and one brother Norman, step-brothers Alfred and Eldon. She is survived by her five children Rosalind (Carl), Aubrey (Mary), Roma (Shawn), Elsa, and Cathy (Paul), 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, four step-sons Ronald (Justina), Wesley (Rowena), Cluny (Patricia), and Eugene, 12 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. To these children she showed endless devotion, love and generosity. She will be remembered forever with love. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring nursing and medical staff of 4 North and South A at the Health Sciences Center who went above and beyond in caring for our mom in her last days. Resting at Moore's Funeral Home, Bay Roberts. Public Visitation: Tuesday: 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Private Funeral: Wednesday, November 25, 2015, 10 AM. Officiant: Reverend Stephen Barbour and Pastor Jason Williams. Cemetery: United Church Cemetery, Clarke's Beach. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to a charity of one's choice.
