COWAN, SUSAN LEE
Susan L. Cowan, 62, of Dieppe, within the comfort of her home, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of Myrna (Harvey) MacDonald of Moncton and the late Coleman MacDonald.
Susan was a retired teacher, having taught in Moncton, Riverview and Salisbury. She dedicated lots of time to being a good teacher, spending most of her teaching career until her retirement at Moncton High, where she enjoyed her role with the Student Council and helping in extra-curricular activities. A gifted athlete, she participated in several sports, notably an accomplished youth swimmer, UNB and Canada Games medalist basketball player and spent many years coaching basketball at two high schools and earlier at junior high school. Susan was a member of Mount Royal United Church and a member of the Choir for many years. She loved to support and follow her children in their athletic activities and loved the cottage life in summers, spending most of them by the water at Caissie Cape.
In addition to her mother, Myrna, Susan will be sadly missed by her husband of 39 years, Robert “Bob” Cowan of Dieppe; sons, Geoffrey (Juanita) and Scott (Diane), both of Riverview; grandchildren, Robyn, Graeme and Luca; sister, Jayne Steeves (Randy) of Ottawa; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A Service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held at Mount Royal United Church, 106 Mount Royal Blvd., on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm with The Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley officiating. Reception in the Church Hall following the service. Interment will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) in care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, in Susan’s memory, please direct donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of The Moncton Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
