Gordon BOULTER

BOULTER, Gordon - 89, of the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, passed away Dec. 1, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in O'Leary, Price Edward Island on Oct. 10, 1926, he was one of nine children of the late Caroline and Watson Boulter.
Gordon enjoyed his life to the end and always had kindness and respect for everyone he encountered.
He loved to have fun and enjoyed many types of music, singing and playing guitar. He even sang on the radio in Toronto at one point of his life and was a jack of all trades from driver to lumberjack, to being a great Dad and grandfather. He was also Vice President of the Kinsmen Club in the late 60's.
Gordon worked as Plant Supervisor for 40 years with Maritime Packers, National Sea, Gulf Seafoods and finally Sea Freeze Foods. He retired Oct. 10, 1991, but continued to work as a consultant. His knowledge of the fishing industry was immense and he was one of the go-to guys in Nova Scotia throughout a career that spanned from the mid 1950s to the 90's. He was well respected in the industry by everyone he worked with whether it was the janitor, a CEO or a fisherman.
His career took him from trips to Newfoundland, to living summers in Cape Tormentine (and having lots of fun with co workers like Harold Russell). Where else would he meet his future wife, Peggy, but at the fish plant in the customs house, where Mom was the personal assistant for Mr. Broidy. They were married on Nov. 19, 1958 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage until July 17th of this year when Peggy passed away.
He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Gladys Robertson; brothers, Calvin, Fred, Claude, Sherman, Lorne; and sister, Doris.
Gordon was fondly known as Poppa at the Shiretown by staff who took such great care of him over the last five years. His granddaughters Tanis and Jillian were truly his highlights and depending on the day, they called him Boppy or Grumpy and he would call them a bunch of squawking seagulls. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Linda (Don) McPhee and Shirley Hennessey; numerous nieces (Claudette “Click” Stewart) nephews; and his daughter, Heather (Ron McLeod); and granddaughters, Tanis and Jillian. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday and funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, both in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.
Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Haliburton Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Shiretown Nursing Home. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
