It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jackie) James Roach, age 75, on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, in the ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John and Mary (O’Connell) Roach.
In his younger years, Jackie was involved in the Air Cadets where he won several awards and obtained his private pilot’s licences. He worked at several different jobs prior to his many years worked at the New Waterford Credit Union, New Waterford.
Jackie is survived by brothers, Michael, Glace Bay, Leonard (Louise), Stewiacke; sister, Patsy (Tommy) White, Lower Sackville; nephews, Richard and Steven White; nieces, Sandra Porter and Janet Millberry.
Besides his parents, Jackie was predeceased by a brother, Daniel, and many aunts and uncles.
As per Jackie wishes cremation has taken place.
Visitation will take place from 12-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, with a funeral services immediately following at 3 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, officiated by Deacon Leo Penny, a reception will follow in St. Leonard’s Church Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
At this time the family wish to express their thanks to the staff of the Glace Bay Hospital and to the staff of the ICU of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and also to the staff of the Glace Bay home-care service for their kindness and care given to Jackie.
In lieu of flowers, we the family of John (Jackie) Roach, request donations be made to a charity of your choice.
