It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Brushett, age 87, on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Mary Veronica (Newell) Brushett.
Before moving to Lake Ainslie, Charles was a resident of Atlantic Street, Glace Bay. He was employed as an oil truck driver for many years. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting and telling stories.
Charles is survived by his wife, Theresa (MacLean) (Madore) Brushett; seven children, Betty MacLeod (Francis), Brenda Henbest (Ron), Charlie (Carolyn), Randy (Stephanie), Sharon MacLean (Bert), Sheldon (Lynne), Barbara MacLean (David); 16 grandchildren, Christine MacLeod-Vint, Nicole, Blair, Ferris Chiasson, Maeghan, Rebeccah, Breanna Allen, Kristopher, Victoria Brushett, Neil, Alexandra, Joseph Brushett, Paige, Carter MacLean, Amy MacDonald, James MacLean; and 10 great-grandchildren, Theresa, Isabelle, Mathius, Faith, Lydia, Samuel, Alexander, Nicole, Eryn, and Marley.
Also surviving are Charles' five siblings, Fabe (Cassie), Frank (Catherine), Danny (Eileen), Marg (William) Gillard, Shirley MacLellan (Roy) and two sisters-in-law, Harriet and Bonnie Brushett.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by a grandson, John Francis MacLeod Jr. and two brothers, John and Colin Brushett.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee, is Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, followed by a reception in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
