John Robert James Kettley - 91, formerly of New Minas and Dartmouth, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 in the Veteran's Unit of Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Orillia, Ontario, he was a son of the late Edward and Mabel (Middleton) Kettley. He was a naval veteran of both the Second World War and the Korean Conflict, serving on several ships, including HMCS Micmac. He was also employed at a nail factory and carriage factory, both in Ontario. Upon moving to Dartmouth, he worked at the Halifax Shipyard and was then employed as a dispatcher with Canada Post at the Halifax Train Station mail room for 35 years. John was an accomplished boxer and loved sports of all kinds. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Leck, Vanier, Ontario; Suzanne Kettley, Ottawa; two sons, David (Tracey), Cheverie; Kenneth (Christine), Ottawa; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily "Della" Bowser; his companion, Marion Johnson; a brother, Harry. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. A Royal Canadian Legion service and reception was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
