Ellen Bernice Duynisveld

Bernice Duynisveld passed away peacefully on December 4, 2015, at the age of 73 years.
Born to Jorgen and Helga Jorgensen on April 20, 1942 at home in Wallace Bay, Bernice was the youngest of 9 children. In her early 20’s she moved to Ontario with her best friend, Doreen MacIvor, and there she met her future husband, Case Duynisveld. Together they ran a dairy farm near St. Thomas. In 1972 they relocated to the farm in Wallace Bay, where they raised 4 children and operated a dairy farm. Bernice also worked at the East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash as a personal care worker for almost 20 years. She was a hard worker on the farm, unafraid to tackle the big jobs, but she was also a very talented seamstress, creating delicate, detailed clothing as well as crochet, knitting, and quilting.
Bernice is survived by her children, Karma (Wayne) Reid, Pugwash; Cathy (Maurice) Duynisveld-Keats, Ste. Paul’s River, Que.; Jennifer (Paul) Petersdorff, Fort Myers, Florida; and John (Jane) Duynisveld, Wallace; grandchildren Blaine Reid, John Burns Duynisveld, Maria Duynisveld, Grace Keats, Emma Keats, Rachel Petersdorff, and Brianne Petersdorff; brothers George (Hazel), Amherst and Henry (Jean), England; sister-in-laws Joyce, Bracebridge Ont., and Jane, Wallace Bay; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Case; brothers Viggo, Nils, Hans and Gordon; sisters Anna Pollock and Marie Hansen.
In accordance with Bernice’s wishes there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 9 at 2 P.M. at St. Thomas More Parish, Pugwash, Deacon Michael Lynch officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wallace Bay Cemetery Fund.
