SEARLES, RONALD EDWARD
In loving memory of Ronald Edward Searles, who was born in Fredericton, NB on October 20, 1943. He is predeceased by his father Keith "Lefty" Searles and mother Pearl (Degrasse) Searles, as well as his infant daughter Nancy Gail Searles.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 49 years, Gail (Dunlap) Searles, and a proud father of his children, Andrea (Shawn Bower) and Greg. He enjoyed his four grandchildren, Katie Bower, Will Bower, Frederick Searles and Georgia Searles tremendously.
Ron graduated from Fredericton High School in 1961 and UNB in 1965 with a BBA. During this time he competed in and excelled in many sports, including baseball, soccer and track and field. He was then a long time employee of the Government of New Brunswick, for whom he worked in various capacities over a period of 32 years beginning in 1965. This included posts in the Power Commission, the Departments of Economic Growth, Government Reform, Environment and NB Liquor where he retired from public service as vice president.
Following this he continued to work part time, selling products to help with the refinishing of antique furniture (which he enjoyed collecting himself) followed by a stint with the Provincial Department of Tourism where he assisted travel writers from across North America to visit New Brunswick's greatest highlights.
Ron and Gail loved to travel together. Many work trips took them to destinations around the world. They also enjoyed many winter vacations to Florida following retirement where they particularly enjoyed watching spring training baseball.
He enjoyed spending time at Harvey Lake with his wife Gail, enjoyed fishing with his close friends and loved to watch baseball with his family, cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved cooking and entertaining for friends and family. For years he spent almost every Friday morning as part of a hard working group who met at Tim Hortons and attempted to solve many of the world's problems. Unfortunately despite their best efforts, they have so far been unsuccessful.
Ron passed away on December 16, 2015. His family would like to thank the warm and supportive medical staff of 4NW at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton.
His funeral service will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Sunday, December 20 at 1 PM. Following the service, there will be an open house to celebrate his life at his daughter Andrea's home until 5 pm. Please come by to share food, stories and laughs. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension at a later date.
