Sarah 'Sadie' Harn
Born In: Blaketown Nfld.
Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: December 17th, 2015
It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Sarah 'Sadie' Harn, beloved sister, aunt and friend, at Seaview Manor on Dec. 17, 2015.
Sadie was born in Blaketown, Nfld., daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Emma Smith.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Herbie; brothers, Eugene and Kenneth; sisters, Ella MacLeod, Mary Ferguson, Gladys Munroe, Olive MacPherson, Myrtle MacInnis and Muriel Peach.
She is survived by sisters, Reta Layes, Lena MacDonald and Shirley Appleton (for the latter two she was like a second mother); and many nieces and nephews.
Longtime resident of Port Morien, she was a devout member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, serving in its choir and Ladies Guild. Post Second World War, she was a member of the C.W.A.C. and became an honourary member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55, volunteering for the auxiliary. She was employed by Sears Canada, working in Glace Bay for 33 years until her retirement in 1980. She will be remembered for her famous tea biscuits and blueberry muffins.
Sadie enjoyed traveling, walks on the Morien Sandbar, family picnics and trips around the Cabot Trail. And she loved her Maple Leafs, listening to radio broadcasts back in the day and watching the games on T.V. - they lost one of their biggest fans. But when Sidney Crosby came along, she quickly found a new idol!
Sincere gratitude is extended to the staff of Seaview Manor for their compassionate and loving care of Sadie, some with whom she formed a very close bond.
The funeral liturgy will be held at St. Paul’s Church, Port Morien on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, 11am with The Revd. Vernon Reid officiating. Reception to follow in Kent Hall, at which time the family will receive guests.
Memorial donations may be made in Sadie’s name to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
