GOODWIN, DOUGLAS HAROLD
Doug passed away on December 17, 2015, age of 89 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta. Doug was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick.
At the age of 17, he joined the RCAF and became an Air Gunner on Lancaster and Halifax Bombers. In 1944 and 1945, Sgt Goodwin flew many missions over Germany. Following the war, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in the federal civil service in Saint John NB and Ottawa ON for 39 years in what is now called the Canada Revenue Agency. He also served in the Canadian Army reserve for many years, retiring as a Major and Paymaster for the Ottawa Militia District. Following his retirement, Doug and his wife Isobel moved to Alberta in 1992, living first in Blairmore and later in Fort Macleod. He played important roles in the Royal Canadian Legion in Ottawa and southern Alberta.
Doug is survived by his wife Isobel, his brother Jim of Orillia ON, his son Dave of Lincoln NB, his step-daughters Pat of Calgary, Deborah and DL of Banff, his step-son Mike of Banff and five grandchildren: Julie of Ottawa, Delanie and Riley of Banff and Michael and (Pat's sons) of Calgary.
Doug lived a long, full life. His passing saddens us all.
A funeral will be held in Ft MacLeod, AB on or near what would have been his 90th birthday, April 20, 2016.
