R. Stewart Somerville

SOMERVILLE, R. STEWART
The family of Robert “Stewart” Somerville is saddened to announce his passing at the Veteran’s Health Unit on December 21, 2015. Stewart was born to Edward and Margaret (Stewart) Somerville on January 8, 1922 and lived his early years at the family farm in Zionville, NB.
At the outbreak of World War Two, Stewart enlisted in the RCAF serving in combat operations as a Lancaster Mid-Upper Gunner in 330 Squadron of RAF Bomber Command. After the end of the war, Stewart returned to New Brunswick and in 1948 he married Nellie Chute of Millville, NB. Stewart reenlisted in the peacetime RCAF in 1949. He and Nellie lived and raised a family at several postings in England and Canada.
He retired in 1970 and settled in Taymouth, NB. He worked at Paul Burden & Sons until his second retirement.
Stewart was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and garden.
In addition to his parents, Stewart was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Nellie and by his brother Earl.
He is survived by his six children, Bob (Mary), Ed (Cindy), James (Margaret), Margaret (Brian) Cleveland, John (Cathy) and Christina (Bev) Moran. Stewart also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Stewart’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside committal ceremony will follow in the Spring.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Veteran’s Health Unit for making dad’s final years safe and comfortable.
