O'BRIEN, JOHN EDWARD
John Edward O'Brien, 85, passed away on December 20th, 2015. Born to the late Edward and Nora O’Brien (nee McVeigh) on August 1st, 1930, in Sudbury, ON. John also lived in Toronto, ON, Saint John, NB, Charlottetown, PEI and New Maryland, NB.
John is survived by his children, Mary Katherine O'Brien of Toronto, ON, and Joseph Kyle O'Brien (Melinda Lin) of Taipei, TW; and grandson, Patrick Conor O'Brien. His wife, Verna Margaret O'Brien (nee Earle) and his eldest son, Sean Edward O'Brien, preceded him in death.
John was educated in Ontario and New Brunswick. As a management accountant, he held the FCMA designation, becoming a member of the CPA when various accounting associations merged in 2014. He held positions, such as secretary-treasurer, for several Maritime businesses over the years including Seven Up Sussex in Saint John, NB, and C.M. McLean in PEI. He was also comptroller of UNB from 1980 to 1996. In addition, John was active in many business and professional associations, including the Society of Management Accountants, where he served as national president from 1976 to 1977. He was also chair of the Pine Grove Nursing Home from 2003 to 2004.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 28th, 2015, at 11:00 am in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Fr. Mark Trzop officiating. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery with a reception to follow at McAdam's Funeral Home (160 York St., Fredericton).
