Kenneth Reginald Smith, age 89, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on January 2, 1926 in Martock, Hants County, he was the son of J. Reginald and Florence (Brown) Smith. He is survived by his wife Helene (Stephens); sons, Brian and daughter-in-law Sandra; Dale and daughter-in-law Karen; daughter, Sheila and son-in-law Michael Porter; grandchildren, Vanessa, Amanda and Sean; great grandchildren, Zofia, Vivian, Annika, and Lorien; sisters, Violet Fillmore, Windsor Elms Village and Ella (Jim) Markham, Santa Barbara, CA.; brother, Arnie, Curry's Corner; sister-in-law, Bette Smith and brother-in-law, Eric Boyd; brother-in-law, Eric Stephens (Karen). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Jack, Henry, Ronnie and Donald; sister, Marg Boyd; sisters-in-law, Mary Smith, Leona Smith and Helena Smith; brother-in-law, Don Fillmore. Ken was in business for many years with his father and brothers, Ronnie and Arnie, known as J. Reg. Smith Ltd., a Mercury car dealership in Curry's Corner. Later, he taught motor vehicle repair at NSCC after returning to school to obtain his teaching certificate at N.S. Teacher's College. He was active as an Elder and on other committees at Windsor United Church. Other interests were the Welsford Masonic Lodge, Avon Valley Golf Club (Past President), Windsor Curling Club, Windsor Gyro Club and Avon Boat Club. In retirement; Ken spent many hours woodworking; building pieces of furniture, stools, and wood turning. The family would like to thank the staff of Dykeland Lodge, and more recently Windsor Elms Village for the care and compassion they showed Ken while he resided there. Funeral service was 2 pm Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, The Rev. Bill Gibson presided, followed by a reception in the church annex. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Arrangements were under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. Family flowers only.
