It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Kenneth J. Morris, age 84, on Monday Jan. 4, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Ken was a longtime resident of Marconi Street, North Sydney and for the past few months he was a resident of Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.
Ken was born in North Sydney on Oct. 12, 1931, he was a son of the late Riley and Mary (Dolimont) Morris. He was employed for a number of years as a truck driver with Martell’s Construction, later as a taxi driver for Stagg’s Taxi and then as an operator and devoted fireman with the North Sydney Fire Department, until his retirement after 37 years of service. Ken was well known for his great sense of humour, he enjoyed going for drives throughout various parts of Cape Breton and also loved to spend quality time with family and friends. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Ken is survived by his wife, Anne (Stubbert) Morris; his daughter, Belinda (John) Hillier, North Sydney; his granddaughters, Meagan, Kayla (Darren) and Emma, by his great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Sophia and Marcus; also surviving are his brothers, Jack (Marilyn) Morris, Ball’s Creek, Stewart (Theresa) Morris, Stellarton; his sisters, Sadie (Stan) O’Toole, Little Bras d’Or and Madeline Morris, St. Catharines, Ont.; sister-in-law, Gertie Slade, North Sydney and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased by his brothers, Stephen R. Morris and Richard D. Morris; his sisters, Frances Wale, Arthena Peverille, Margaret Taylor and Lucy Morris.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Milburn and the ER staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially the touching musical tribute, the staff of Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines and a special thanks to Dr. John Kirkpatrick and his staff for their many years of compassionate care.
Visitation for Ken will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Northside Junior Sailing Program, the Northside Harbourview Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
