HAY, MORRISON (MORRIE) ANDREW
1924- 2016
Andrew Morrison (Morrie) Hay of Miramichi, NB. Passed away peacefully at the Veterans Wing at the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home on Saturday January 2, 2016. Born in September 24, 1923 in Chatham, NB., he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Melvina ("Minnie") (Morrison) Hay.
Morrie was the Vice President of O'Donnell's Express in Presque Isle Maine, USA for many years, then moved back to Miramichi where he was the owner of Daley's Jewelry Store. Morrie was an avid Golfer and a member of the Miramichi Golf & Country Club, and he was quite the Musician as he played the saxophone with his brothers Frank & Herbie in their own Orchestra. He attended St Thomas University after the war and was quite the hockey player. Morrie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all that knew him. He especially enjoyed and looked forward to Tuesday nights with his card buddies. Morrie Hay was a gentlemen's gentleman.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy "Dottie" (O'Donnell) Hay and his second wife Margaret Walsh Hay along with siblings: Arthur (Eleanor), Frank (Ann), Mary Helena "Dot" Rigley and Herbie (Midge). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his children Andrew (Gerry) , Ellen (Frances) Callnan, Debra (Bill) Gesell, Ann (Michael) Hagan all of the USA and step-children: Ellen Marie (Bob) Currie, Cheryl (Ian) Graham , Lou (Gail) Walsh, Joe (Sharon) Walsh, John (Gwen) Walsh, and by his grandchildren, Kent, Matthew, Benjamin, Andrea, Andrew, John, Christopher and Jamieson and several great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
At Morrie's request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 8, 2016 at 11am from St Michael's Basilica with Fr John Beaumaster officiating.
As a expression of sympathy a donation to the St Michael's Capital Campaign would be appreciated. Special Thanks to Dr Gerard Losier and the staff of 2 East & 4 East at the Miramichi Regional Hospital and the Miramichi Senior Citizens Veteran's Wing. Wonderful care by all.
