Nellie Ferguson passed peacefully in her 103rd year on Dec. 20, 2015 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
A lifelong resident of Glace Bay, she had a special fondness for Mira Bay where she and her husband had a summer cottage for many years.
Some Glace Bay residents may still remember her holiday dressing sold at the local IGA. Her enjoyment of life did not diminish with age; still doing those things she loved, playing cards, baking for friends and family, driving as well as maintaining her own residence until her 100th year. Nellie was a former member of Club 55 and a longtime member of Rebekah Lodge.
She traveled alone, at 100 years of age, by plane to Montreal to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband, (John); her daughter, (Catherine) and son, (Alister); as well as her brother, (Albert) and sisters, (Winnifred, Georgina and Violet). She is survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Seaview Manor for the wonderful care she received over the past 2-1/2 years and also wish to thank her close friend, Darlene Byrne for the many hours she spent with Nellie.
