Lillian Ealey

Lillian Irene Ealey passed away on January 1, 2016 at age of 96. Lily was born on March 26, 1919 in Govan, Saskatchewan to Harry and Gertrude Bowers and grew up in the Spalding area. She was one of five girls – Myrtle, Josie, Evelyn and Jean.
The family moved to Choiceland in 1938. It was here that she met and married Norman Ealey on December 1, 1942. As a young girl, mum played softball and used to tell us stories of how they would walk from one town to another to play ball and then walk home again.
Mum became a good cook for her family and many people still talk about how good her bread was. She took up curling when she came to Choiceland. Lily was active in the Snowden UCW and sang in the church choir. In later years, she had two passions – knitting and making quilts. There are many people in the community who were blessed with having something knit by her and family members all have one of her quilts.
Mum stayed on the family farm north of Snowden until she moved to North Haven in Smeaton in October 2010. With deteriorating health she was moved to Pineview Lodge in Nipawin in June 2013 where she resided until her passing.
Lily was predeceased by her parents, 3 sisters and by her husband, Norman and granddaughter, Tracy, in 1991. Left to mourn are her three children, Linda (Bill) Hein of Kelowna, Duane (Doreen) Ealey of Snowden and Lois Koob of Saskatoon. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Kevin Hein, Sheldon Hein, Mark Ealey, Kylee Ealey Blackburn and Rhonda Ealey, 8 great grandchildren, sister Josie and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Snowden Community Hall with Reverend Krystal Sheremeta officiating. Lillian was laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Pineview Lodge in Nipawin or North Haven Lodge in Smeaton. To send online condolences please visit www.coventryfuneralservices.ca. The family placed their trust with Coventry Funeral Services Nipawin, SK 306-862-4233.
