Murray Burns

BURNS, MURRAY LOUIS
1945 - 2016
Murray Burns of Riverview passed away at The Moncton Hospital on January 10, 2016. Raised in Alma, he was the son of Otty and the late Wilma (Martin) Burns.
Murray was a proud member of the RCMP for over 26 years retiring with the rank of inspector. He was an avid outdoorsman and some of his favourite times were walking the trails of Fundy Park where he was born. Murray’s love of the outdoors extended to Scouting as well. A Queen’s Scout himself, he was an enthusiastic Scout Leader for many years. Murray loved to teach. He taught school for one year right after his graduation from Alma High before going into the Air Force. The Air Force couldn’t hold him and the RCMP’s gain was the Air Force’s loss. After retiring from the RCMP, Murray joined the real estate industry. He won several sales awards from the New Brunswick Real Estate Association, served on many committees locally and Provincially, and taught the Pre-Licensing courses for several years. For those who knew him, he will be remembered for his sense of humour and quick wit, his love of telling stories and his ability to make people laugh. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9270 as well as a member of the Msgr. Roy MacDonald Assembly 0618 and a former member of the Moncton Golf and Country Club.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Mary (MacKay); daughter, Deborah (Dave) Mahoney of Riverview; son, Robert of Hillsborough; sister, Diana O’Connor (Gary) of Waterside; brother, Paul (Gail) of Riverview; grandchildren, Hannah, Erin and Sadie; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm with Parish Prayers and Sharing of Memories taking place at 7:30pm. A funeral Mass will take place from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11:00am with Father Phil Mulligan officiating. The interment will follow in Alderwood Cemetery.
Donations made to Friends of The Moncton Hospital Unit 5200 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
