It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sherman Paul Wadlin at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on January 12, 2015, beloved husband of Marlene E. (Peters) Wadlin of Beaver Harbour NB. Born at Beaver Harbour NB on May 10, 1935, he was a son of the late Orland T. and Della M. (Fisher) Wadlin. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Marlene, Sherman is survived by two daughters: Karen (Wayne) Avery of St. George and Heather Wadlin of Winnipeg MB; grandchildren: Jeff Mederski (Amanda Cipriano), Robyn Tucker (Chris Tucker), Bradley Mederski (Dana Waterman-Mederski), Kristi Curtis (Doug Curtis) and Shawn Avery (Kayla Curtis); great-grandchildren: Ramsey Curtis, Conner Mederski, Levi Avery and Sawyer Curtis; sister: Nina Ewart (Lawrence) Ewart) and two nieces.
Prior to his official retirement, Sherman was a career military man having served for the Canadian Armed Forces (Land) from 1953-1978, serving throughout Canada and Europe. For his service Sherman received many medals and decorations including the Canadian Forces Decoration and the Special Service Medal (NATO). Following his retirement in 1978, he then moved back east and worked for NB Power at Point Lepreau. Sherman was a person of many hats as he was involved in many organizations both local and provincial. He spent 17 years as an Auxiliary member of the RCMP in St. George and District 1. Following his Auxiliary career, he became involved with policing in his community. Active in both Chairperson for Community Policing and with Crime Stoppers, which he served as local president and Director at Large of New Brunswick Crime Stoppers. Some of the many other committees and organizations Sherman served over the years included: Boy Scouts of Germany, The Winnipeg Radio Road Patrol, Boy Scouts of Canada, National Association of Ferderal Retirees, Charlotte County Crime Stoppers, Representative New Brunswick Solid Waste Association, Eastern Charlotte Co. Emergency Measures Organization Committee, Technical Advisory Committee, Elections Returning Officer, Beaver Harbour Community Venture, Community Policing Committee and President of the Harbourview Senior Citizens Federation. Other interests included curling at the Brunswick Curling Club, and he also enjoyed bowling. He served as Deputy Returning Officer in elections both federal and municipal. He also worked for the Sheriff's Department as a Casual Officer and Court Security. His church was also a large part of his life as well having served as a Warden, past Central Treasurer and on vestry for Christ Church (Anglican) in Pennfield for several years. Sherman was truly a community minded person who served his family, church, community and country. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. By request there will be no visiting. A celebration of Sherman's life will be held at Christ Church (Anglican) in Pennfield on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating. A private family interment will be held in the church cemetery at a later date.
In Sherman's memory, donations to NB Heart and Stroke, Charlotte County Cancer, Research of Myositis through the Canadian Muscular Dystrophy Association or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and donations may be placed at www.stgeorgefh.ca
