It is with great sadness that we the family of Charles B. Boutilier, announce his passing on Jan. 15, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
He was born in Gardiner Mines, March 17, 1932 to Charles and Lillian (Johnstone) Boutilier.
Charlie lived and worked in “Upper” Gardiner his entire life. From there he owned and operated four businesses with second wife, Marion MacDonald: Hoola Hoop Dance Hall, Boutilier’s Dairy, Boutilier’s Bus Service & Boutilier’s Used Cars & Scrap Yard. He loved being his own boss, able to make a living and provide for him and his family, got him up and out in the yard each day, no matter the season. His work ethic and frugality are sources of many family tales.
Charles is survived by his children, Larry (Chris), Glace Bay, Kevin (Marley), Halifax, and Charlene (Doug) Harris, Hamilton, grandchildren Jaimie (Victoria), Kristin (Paris, France), Dwayne Somerton, Glace Bay and great-granddaughter, Layla, Victoria. Also surviving are his two sisters, Jean (Massachusetts) and Mary 'Mamie', Gardiner Mines, with whom he enjoyed many hours of friendship & laughter. They were his best friends. He will also be missed by his dear friend, Sis Bennett, Dominion.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Fred O’Brien, Ronald Gouthro and half-brother, David Boutilier (Mary O’Brien), one of 16 half-siblings from his father’s first marriage to Effie Morrison.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will take place on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home following the service. Burial take place at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Waterford Food Bank or the Cancer Society.
