James Henry “Jim” Selby, age 94, of Lower Vaughan, Hants County, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, where he has been a resident of the past 6 years. Born on April 4, 1921, in Avonport, Kings County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John Henry and Flora Ella (King) Selby. Jim retired in 1987 from the Nova Scotia Department of Highways, where he worked for many years. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving oversea’s in the Canadian Army (Ground Infantry). He is survived by step children, Danny Guptill, Lockhartville; David Guptill, Avonport; Kathy Guptill, Revelstoke, BC; Timmy (Barb) Guptill, Debolt, Alta.; Peter Guptell, Lower Vaughan; Paul Guptell (Tanya Card), Lower Vaughan; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim was the last member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Myril Nellie (Schofield); step mother, Mildred Delahunt; step-daughter, Nancy Jensen; several brothers and sisters, Harland, Lila, Carl, Ella, Vera, Anna, Arnold and an infant child; half brother Robert Selby. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday, January 18, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, (902-798-2232) 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. Funeral service was at 11:30 am Tuesday, January 19, 2016, in the Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. Interment was held at the Vaughan Community Cemetery, Lower Vaughan. Donations in memory of Jim were requested to be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to the Windsor Elms Village.
