Charles Murray

MURRAY, CHARLES D.
With sadness, the family of Charles D. Murray announces his passing in Strathmore, Alberta, on January 16, 2016. Charlie was born on June 2, 1925, in Saint John, New Brunswick to the late George F. Murray and Edith Murray (nee Baxter).
Charlie was also predeceased by his sister Grace Chadwick and his brother G. Ernest Murray.
Upon the death of his mother, Edith when he was six, and the departure of his father, George, when he was eight, Charlie was taken in and raised by his Uncle Robert Baxter and Aunt Mary “Mame” Baxter. His cousins Roberta Mott (nee Baxter), and the late Malcolm Baxter were like a sister and brother to him during those years.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Margaret (nee Keirstead), and his three children; Shelly (David) Welton, Peter (Helene Brisson) Murray, and Heather Murray. He has six wonderful grandchildren; Holly and Katie, Jennifer and Michael, Justin and Morgan, and to top it all off he has twelve completely amazing great-grandchildren. Charlie is also survived by his niece, two nephews, and his stepmother, Alberta Murray.
Charlie was a real one-of-a-kind and had a profound impact on his family. He was a big presence in our lives and he will be always loved and forever missed. His favourite quotation pretty much sums up how he lived his life:
“Two roads diverged in a wood,
and I, I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference.”
– Robert Frost.
Cremation has already taken place. There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life in the summer of 2016 in Coles Island, New Brunswick, date to be announced. To send condolences, please visit Charles’ obituary at www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.
