God has called another angel home, William 'Bill' Charles Mischiek, 68, passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Gouthro) Mischiek.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of three years, Anne (Shaw); his children, Wayne (Cherlyn), Billy (Shannon); stepson, Thomas (Stephanie), Sydney; stepdaughters, Katelyn, and Kiara. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Duff (Emmerson), Frances Blackmore (Michael), N.B., Anne Gilmet (Francis), Dorothy Kimm (Robert), Betty Oliver (John); brothers, Joe (Joan), Michael (Corrine); grandchildren, Trent, Marcus, Kayla, Chauncey, Brendan, Jarvis; step-grandchildren, Layla, Shamus, great-grandchildren, Maddison, Brielle and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bill was a loving and caring person who enjoyed playing darts at Branch 12, Cedar’s Club and the French Club, who put a smile on everyone's face, with a funny joke or story. He was a happy soul, who was most proud of his family, and was a die hard Montreal Canadiens fan. For years he worked as a coal miner in #26 mine until an injury caused him to leave. He served in the RCN for five years and was a proud veteran and member of Branch 12 Legion. Bill coached little league teams and men's and ladies softball teams. Played broomball, softball, and played in little league teams in his youth.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 3-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan., 21, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to take place at a later date.
