Christine Patterson (nee Griffith) long time resident of Saint John, NB passed away peacefully at home in Glenmont, NS on January 17th 2016. Born October 24th 1935 in Saint John she was the daughter of Bessie Griffith (Christiansen) and Paul Griffith and wife to Donald DJ Patterson.
She was a woman of incredible strength, being one of few to live for 20yrs after a lung transplant. Mom spent much of her life taking care of others in both her professional and personal life. A pioneer in helping the mentally challenged, working at the Annex, Provincial Hospital and then opening one of the first special care homes in N B. Mom was highly respected for her work with Special Olympics. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her husband of 59 years (Donald DJ) on the Washademoak. After Don (Bud) passed January 2nd, 2013, she moved to Glenmont to live with Ange and Ron and all of their critters at Angelhoeve Farm.
She is survived by her daughters Angela Patterson (Ron Titus) Glenmont, NS, Cheryl Campbell (David) Saint John, NB, Janet Briggs (Jamie) Popes Hbr NS, sons Don Patterson (Maureen Cusack) Calgary AB, Rick Patterson (Cindy Achorn) Saint John, NB; brother Bryan Griffith (Audrey) Moncton, NB and was predeceased by sisters Pauline Sears and Valerie Badger. She was known affectionately as “Grammie-Mum” by her grandchildren: Delany Titus, Christa Campbell-Rhodes, Andrew Campbell, Rhett Titus, Traci (Campbell) MacVay, Rian Kleinke, Jennifer Patterson, Jason Briggs, Jenna Briggs, Maria Patterson, Dennis Patterson, Laura Patterson, Sherri Patterson; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mom was a fantastic person who cared about everyone, she will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at Lancaster Baptist Church, 87 Church Ave, West Saint John, Thursday January 21st at 2:00 pm, interment will occur at a later date.
Family flowers only, donations may be made to the “CAREY Me Program” Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, SPCA or charity of donors' choice.
