Ruby Coombs

Born: September 25th, 1941

Passed on: January 10th, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruby Coombs of Shoal Cove West announces her sudden passing at her home on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Ruby was born on Current Island on September 25, 1941, the youngest child of Amelia and Walter Coombs. She lived on Current Island until she married Wilfred Coombs in 1964 and moved to Shoal Cove West. Ruby and Wilfred had two sons, Wilfred William (Bill) and John and one could truthfully say that Wilf and the two boys were her whole life. Ruby worked at the fish plant for all her working career until she retired. Ruby lost her beloved husband, Wilfred, to cancer in 1988 and from that time on, she was devoted to her sons. Ruby wasn't much for being out and about, but she could always be counted on to cook when there was a fundraiser on the go. Ruby suffered another devastating loss in August, 2013 when her son, Bill, died after a short fight with cancer. She had not recovered from that loss when she lost two sisters within a very short time. Rest in peace, Ruby. She leaves to mourn her son John (Vonnie); daughter-in-law Gloria; sister Virginia (Calvin), and brothers William and George (Mamie), extended family Derek (Jackie) Caines and family, Dottie (Eddie) Blanchard and family, Nicholas (Kristy) Caines and family as well as a large number of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, son Bill, parents Amelia and Walter Coombs, brothers John and Jacob, and sisters Caroline, Matilda, and Myrtle. Visitation took place at St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Reef's Harbour from where the funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13 with Rev. Harvey officiating. Interment followed in the French Cove Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
