It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Beecher Spencer Magee on Jan. 29, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Louisbourg on April 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph E. And Julia (Hunt) Magee
Beecher worked with Nova Scotia Power for 13 years, he also worked in Forestry, which was when he cut all the wood to build their family home. His most recent profession was with Parks Canada, working in maintenance at the Fortress of Louisbourg. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, ice fishing. He also took enormous pride in his property, spending countless hours at the garden tending to the flowers. In his later years, Beecher discovered his joy for woodcarving. He also loved to tell stories, particularly when it came to his youth and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Magee; also his children, Sharon (Robert) Thomas, Vernon, Jeffrey, Derrick, Robert; brothers, Winston (Pearl), Wayne (Kathy), Charles; grandchildren, Jason, Steven, Spencer, Fletcher. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Aubrey Eugene; brothers, Joseph and Howard; also sisters, Mary, Margaret, Dorothy, Ann Mae and three sisters in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Beecher’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation, or the Autism Society.
Cremation has taken place, a celebration of life will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
